Lux Art Institute welcomes Alison Moritsugu

Hawaiian Artist, Alison Moritsugu began her month long residency at Encinitas based Lux Art Institute.  Known for her ellaborate floral designs and wallpaper installations, Alison's creative process will be open to the public through Lux's artist residency program.  This Wednesay (Nov. 19th) admission to Lux is free from 7-9pm for their monthly Lux @ Night series.

This month's event also features live music by Calico Horse.

Alison: As my work has become sculptural and larger in scale, I have visualized creating more complete room installations. Wallpaper seemed the next step, allowing me to create more encompassing environments. Although I am a landscape painter, I have always been drawn to the decorative arts.

Holiday Matinee Launches Artist Series

Our good friends at Holiday Matinee launched their Artist Series yesterday; a monthly T Shirt release with all proceeds going to a different NPO.  Holiday Matinee's main man, Dave Brown, gives a run down of the series below.

Launching the artist series is our commitment to doing something. While some might argue we've done a lot over the past ten years, the social fabric of our new world ambition comes with the intent to make things better and with a sense of purpose. We've felt the passion to do good and create an opportunity for consumers who are looking for smarter, more creative ways to spend their money. In that spirit, Holiday Matinee introduces an artist series of t-shirts, debuting a new design each month. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Plant-It 2020, a nonprofit foundation dedicated to properly planting, maintaining and protecting indigenous trees worldwide. In addition to replenishing cities and forests, Plant-It 2020 provides educational workshops on forestry issues to thousands of children. Founded by the late Singer John Denver in 1992, their reforestation projects in many countries often directly help humanity by increasing crop production and fresh water availability. For more information on Plant-It 2020, visit www.plantit2020.org. Holiday Matinee’s first design is by the incredibly talented, LA- artist Ashkahn. All shirts are printed on 100% organic cotton and available in both men and women sizes.

HOLIDAY MATINEE
Holiday Matinee is devoted to promoting creativity. For nearly ten years, we've spoken the language of consumers who are inspired by new ideas, technologies, music, arts, events and products. We're an army of cultural tastemakers, bloggers, thinkers, observers, and innovators who advise brands on how to better engage consumers. We enjoy helping strong businesses grow, bigtime.  For more information on Holiday Matinee, visit: www.holidaymatinee.com

ASHKAHN
Ashkahn is a multi-dimensional designer from Los Angeles. He wishes there were more slow dances and sushi restaurants that use brown rice. Recently he's become obsessed with the Pluot, an amazing plum-apricot hybrid. Other than being a full-time, bon vivant, he runs the small design studio Don't Stop. His t-shirt design is the first in a series of artist-commissioned work for Holiday Matinee and we couldn't be more stoked. For more information on Ashkahn, visit: www.dontstopstudio.com
