SD Film Festival: August's 35mm: Soundtrack

August 12th was San Diego Film Festival's 35mm:Soundtrack event.  It was surprisingly chill for such a swanky venue, the W Hotel's Beach..free Peroni's and popcorn ($5 donation to the San Diego Film Foundation), lounge chairs, sand in your toes, cabanas, and movie's projected onto a wall..oh yeah and one of my favorite musicians played..

Joel P. West and friends play in a cabana at Beach

Hanging out in the sand..sippin Peroni's

movie time!

Human/Nature at MCA San Diego

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego is proud to debut Human/Nature: Artists Respond to a Changing Planet, a unique collaborative art project with a specific goal to tangibly encourage proper care and appreciation for the natural world.  A select group of relevant artists were commissioned to go work in eight unique environments across the globe and returned with work addressing global change and human interaction with their surroundings.  The exhibition, which spans a variety of media, will be up at MCASD's Jacobs building downtown until February and, as always at all three locations, admission is free for those twenty-five and under.

Beautiful Losers

On a recent peruse of my favorite artsy blogs, I came across the trailer for the indie film Beautiful Losers over at RVCA.com

"The greatest cultural accomplishments in history have never been the result of the brainstorms of marketing men, corporate focus groups, or any homogenized methods; they have always happened organically. More often than not, these manifestations have been the result of a few like-minded people coming together to create something new and original for no other purpose than a common love of doing it."

So far, it doesn’t look like there will be a screening in San Diego, but their website has a list of upcoming showings in many other fine cities such as Portland, Frisco, and LA... request a showing in SD here!
