San Diego Foundation : Creative Catalyst

A few months ago we reported on an individual artist grant offered by the San Diego Foundation. The Creative Catalyst Fund was created to fund up to 19 artists currently working in San Diego, focusing at the emerging level as a means to take selected artist's careers to a new level. We're thrilled to announce that longtime Sezio collaborators Wes Bruce and Joel P West have each been awarded a grant for 2012.

Each artist had to apply through an eligible non-profit within San Diego County. Wes Bruce will be sponsored by Lux Art Institute, and Joel will be working with Camarada, whose focus is to present classical and chamber music in new, engaging venues. Sound artist Margaret Noble was also selected and will be working with MCASD. The UT announced the full, 15 artist list yesterday.

We'll keep you posted throughout 2012 on their ambitious, year-long projects. For now, enjoy a previous collaboration between Joel and Wes.

Lux Art Institute : Emilio Perez

Brooklyn-based artist Emilio Perez has recently completed his residency work at Lux Art Institute in Encinitas. Perez spent an entire month layering latex and acrylic colors on a giant wood panel, and then digging back into the layers with an exacto blade. If you'd like to see this massive piece in person, you've got six more days to do so. Visit Lux Art Institute between 1-5pm on Thursday, Friday or Saturday of this week or next (December 22nd, 23rd, 24th or 29th, 30th, 31st). All photos by Stacy Keck.

Sezio Membership Launch / Art Show

In June of 2008, we were scrambling to finish the programming for Sezio.org while trying to coordinate a huge art show at a rented loft space that was way out of our budget. Funny how things come full circle... This Thursday, three and a half years later, Sezio returns to Luce Loft with another huge art show to celebrate the launch of our 2011-12 membership program. We've got a whole lot in store for this evening, so stick with us as we break it down.

First off, we've got a new membership kit for our 2011-12 fiscal year, highlighted by these rad new cards designed by Wes Bruce and a letterpressed sketchbook courtesy of Sezio and Quality Letterpress. We've also added to our list of Partner businesses, so this year your Sezio Card can really save you some dough!

Present your card at the following businesses and receive 10% off your bill:

Starlite, Riviera Supper Club, Blind Lady Alehouse, Station Tavern, Bottlecraft, The Linkery, Artist & Craftsman Supply, MIHO Gastrotruck, Tiger! Tiger!, and El Take It Easy.

Sezio Partners, Starlite and MIHO Gastrotruck, will also be at Luce Loft this Thursday serving up some tasty beverages and hand-crafted grub. Memberships will be available Thursday for $40 dollars!

Filling the walls at Luce Loft will be 20 or so of our favorite local artists, all showing small to medium sized pieces that would make perfect holiday gifts. Here's an alphabetical list of the artists you'll see work from:

Angela Estes, Angella d'Avignon, Brent Sandor, Carly Ealey, Charles Bergquist, Clarke Forrest, Dustin Ortiz, Eric Wixon, Exist 1981, Honkeykong, Jenna Morrow, Jolby, Joshua Krause, Lee Lavy, Matt Mahoney, Matt Stallings, Mickey Ford, Mike Maxwell, Morgan Manduley, Neko, Taylor Johnson, Tocayo, Tommy McAdams, Wendy Teague, and Wes Bruce.

We sure hope you can make it out this Thursday, December 15th! The event is Free, All Ages, and lasts from 7-11pm. Luce Loft is located at 1037 J Street - San Diego, CA 92101.
