Hardly Strictly is a free three-day anomaly brought to the fine citizens of San Fran by either the Masons, Big Oil, or Urban Outfitters. Honestly, I have no idea how this thing is funded, but as a recent bay area resident: thanks! And as a proclaimed skeptic of most music festivals, I am glad to report that it went off without a hitch—which, considering the status and amount of acts performing (Connor Oburst, Sharon Jones, the Avett Brothers, Elvis Costello, MC Hammer…), compounded by the non-paying, booze brandishing crowds, is really saying something. Last Thursday, San Diego artist, Neko, packed up his paintings and headed north for Upper Playground’s opening of “The Spencer Little and Neko Fart Show.” Teaming up with one of his childhood friends, Spencer Little, the two bombed and skated their way up the coast to Sacramento. After having a major back surgery in April, the life of Jona Tellez-Giron changed dramatically. Not too long ago Jona was out and about, playing drums for The Vision of a Dying World and The Paddle Boat, skateboarding and working several jobs. Now he spends most of time at his home in City Heights, waiting for an estimated 1 - 2 years for his back to heal properly before he can go back to working full-time. Read More...

We were hidden from the sight of the city as we crept through lavender lit tunnels that gleamed with the colorful evidence of those that had created in that secret place. We had gathered everything we would need for the adventure, all the paints, brushes, rollers, wheat paste, posters and whatnots. We had illumination and a strong sense of purpose as we braved the wet underground infrastructure beneath America’s finest city.
