Morgan Goes Pacific : The South

Lots of stuff has kind of happened since our first day.  Michael's friend Chris who we stayed with the second night took us on the 900 ft zipline they have where he works as a wilderness guide dude.  I noted to myself as I was stepping off the platform that it was probably best that we were doing it first thing in the morning before we had our wits about us.  It was pretty awesome.

Then we drove to Tennessee, bought a popcorn jigsaw puzzle at a thrift store, drove all the way across the state and ended up at a motel near Memphis where we found some booger-bug hybrids on the doorframe to the bathroom.  Like, picture if you found a slug, and then when you went to scrape it away with a hotel coat hanger it came apart with the consistency of a booger.  That's what it was like.  Then this morning we drove into Mississippi a little to visit Graceland Too, but were disappointed when the guy didn't answer his door, even after we spent 15 minutes skulking around his sidewalk looking at his blue christmas tree collection.

We crossed the Mississippi and stopped to collect some gas and flowers sometime after that, then ducked into Arkansas to buy some peaches and tomatoes from a man who looked just like the orchid guy in Adaptation.  Hot Springs was sort of a bust, but while I was on the phone trying to reassure Bank of America that I really was in Arkansas, Michael got hilariously dissed when he tried to make small talk with a totally disinterested woman pouring hot spring water into her rubber boots.

After that, I panicked about time, he bought an extreme-American pride energy drink, and again instead of camping we drove on to Texarkana, where we are now in a motel watching Roseanne.  Tomorrow we are checking out a Goodwill and venturing further into Texas, where I intend to find an armadillo, some postcards, and FINALLY camp.  Our windshield bug smattering, rearview mirror flower conglomeration, and babyfood jar soil collections are growing nicely.  I think we might make it to San Diego.

We are enthused.
